Family.

1&2- Just some of the guys hanging out.

As we have established, the purpose of this blog is to give an inside look into what we are doing as a team... and for the most part, it is fun and games. It seems that if you are on campus it is virtually impossible run into a single Tulane baseball player. The reason for that? Where there is one of us, there are inevitably several more nearby. It seems like we are never alone, which, has its perks and its pitfalls. Some of the pitfalls include (but are not restricted to): No stupid act, comment, or question goes without being relayed to the entire team, secrets are virtually non-existent, and self-esteem must be checked at the door. We are always quick to make fun of one another, and an onlooker unfamiliar with our collective sarcasm might think we absolutely hate one another. This couldn't be further from the truth, and it brings me to the point of this post. We are a family.

Never has this been more evident than it was this weekend. In the midst of celebrating a big win on Friday night... we received news that Preston Claiborne's father had passed away earlier that evening. At that very moment, everything else became irrelevant. See, we are brothers. When something happens to one of your brothers... it feels like it has happened to you. Preston is without a doubt one of the most fun guys on the team. As roommates during our freshman year of college, I think we experienced just about everything. The one thing that I always noticed was that Preston, the same Preston that earned the nickname "Leeroy" for his antics and personality, had a unique respect and admiration for his father, that I could not begin to explain. Preston got the ball today and did one hell of a job on the mound, looking better than ever after his surgery. I have no doubt that Mr. C was pretty proud.

Although we dropped two tough games to UC-Irvine this weekend, I have no doubt that we will bounce back. Every family has its growing pains... and as long as we are there to pick each other back up nothing will keep us down.

This week's quote might not have been said by one of the guys, but I make the rules here:
"Two are better than one because they have good return for their work; If one falls down his friend can help him up."
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

What a great tribute! I'll continue to pray for Preston and the entire Claiborne family as well as his Tulane family.
